“Nazis in Kiev are looking for you”: Chechen leader in Ukraine, Putin’s protector

by

The leader of the Russian Republic of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, a bodyguard of President Vladimir Putin, assured today that he is on Ukrainian territory, on the side of the Russian forces that continue their attack on the country.

Mr Kadyrov, who has been accused by NGOs of blatant human rights abuses in his Caucasus republic, uploaded to the Telegram platform a video of himself in military garb studying plans and maps with soldiers around a table in a hall.

He later confirmed in a statement that the video had been recorded at Gostomel, an airport near Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital, which had been occupied by the Russian military in the early days of what the Kremlin called a “special military operation”.

This information cannot be independently verified.

“The other day we were about 20 kilometers away from you, Nazi Kiev, and now we are even closer,” Kadyrov wrote, calling on Ukrainian forces to surrender, otherwise “you are done”.

“We will show you (…) that Russian practice teaches you war better than foreign theory and the urgings of military advisers,” he added.

“You can relax (…). You do not need to look for us, we will find you “, he added.

Ramzan Kadyrov, who rules Chechnya with an iron fist, is considered a staunch supporter of the Kremlin and has a paramilitary force under his command known as “Kadyrov”.

Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, images of a square in Grozny, the capital of Chechnya, full of soldiers saying they were leaving for Ukraine were posted on social media.

Mr Kadyrov’s forces have been accused of many atrocities in Chechnya.
