The legendary singer shared his thoughts on the legalization of cannabis in parts of the US and Canada: “It’s addictive, you don’t think normally”
THE Elton John doesn’t hold his tongue when it comes to legalized marijuana. In an interview with the magazine time, the legendary singer shared his thoughts on the legalization of cannabis in parts of the US and Canada.
“I argue that it is addictive. It leads to other drugs. And when you get stoned—and I’ve been stoned—you don’t think normally,” he said. “The legalization of marijuana in America and Canada is one of the biggest mistakes of all time.”
Elton John has been sober for many years. He is his sponsor Eminem. He arranged music by the English pop star himself Robbie Williamsduring his rehab period, the publication noted. One artist he regrets not being able to help was the late George Michaelwho struggled with substance abuse before dying of heart and liver disease in 2016. He was 53.
“It’s hard to tell someone they’re f***ing,” John said of trying to help Michael. “I finally made the choice to admit that I’m a f***.”
John’s longtime partner, Bernie Taupinsaid that when John was hooked on drugs she was scared for him. “It was absolutely horrible. A lot of the work we did when he was at his worst wasn’t the best for either of us.”Taupin said. “I couldn’t creatively invest time into writing material for him until he found himself”he concluded.
