The Israel will close its embassy in Dublin due to “the extreme policies of the Irish government against Israel”, Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said in a statement today.
“It should be noted that in the past, Israel’s ambassador to Dublin it had been revoked following Ireland’s unilateral decision to recognize a “Palestinian state”.
Last week, Ireland announced its support for South Africa’s legal challenge against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague accusing Israel of “genocide”, the same statement said.
Simon Harris: The decision is deeply regrettable
Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris said today that Israel’s decision to close its embassy in Dublin causes him “deep regret”.
“This is a decision by the Netanyahu government that causes deep regret. I absolutely reject the claim that Ireland is turning against Israel. Ireland supports peace, human rights, but also international law,” the Irish Prime Minister said in a post on the X platform.
“Ireland wants a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine so they can live in peace and security. Ireland will always support human rights and international law. Nothing will distract us from them”, he emphasized.
