Horrific images of a woman burning alive, standing in a New York subway car, helpless, are going around the world. The perpetrator was also identified as co-accused 33 years old Sebastian Zapata, outlaw migrant from the Guatemala, but with a clean criminal record.

According to the New York police, the attacker calmly approached the woman who was sleeping in the back of the empty train and set her on fire. The woman instinctively got up but within seconds she was completely engulfed in flames and died on the spot, her body still standing upright, burning.

At the same time, the 33-year-old sat calmly outside the train and watched the victim burn – at one point fanning the flames with his jacket. All this time no one did anything to save the unfortunate woman – who has not yet been identified.

In fact, in videos released on X, a policeman can be seen passing in front of the horrific scene, talking on the radio and moving forward without stopping to help.

As smoke and the smell of burning filled the dock, police rushed to the scene. In fact, at first they didn’t understand that the 33-year-old had set the woman on fire and they told him to move away so they could clean up the scene.

How was the perpetrator caught?

Cameras on the officers’ uniforms provided a very clear, detailed image of the assailant, who walked away unmolested after his horrific crime.

Later in the day, three high school students called police — who had since released photos of him appealing for information — and said they saw the man on another subway train.

When officers arrived, they found the suspect already on another train leaving the station and arrested him.
