“The Meloni government wants to resume the transfer of asylum seekers to centers in northern Albania in January”, according to the press
“In January, the government of Georgia Meloni wants to resume the transfer of asylum seekers to the centers that Italy set up in northern Albania,” according to Italian public television Rai and much of the press.
The Italian Prime Minister discussed the whole matter today in a meeting held at the government building in Rome, Palazzo Chizzi, in which the Ministers of the Interior Matteo Piandendozzi, Foreign Antonio Tajani and Defense Guido Crosetto took part.
“The Supreme Court of our country proved right, essentially, to our government, regarding the fact that it is the right of every government to define which are the safe countries of origin of immigrants. “Judges can deal with individual cases regarding these countries, but not stop applying the set of measures we have approved,” said the Italian Prime Minister.
The whole matter was also mentioned by the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, who underlined that “in today’s meeting, reference was again made to the commitment of the Italian government to follow a path, the importance of which was also recognized by the European Union”. “We will proceed with great seriousness and sobriety with the aim of combating human traffickers, respecting Community rules,” Tajani added.
