After Blake Lively’s allegations of sexual harassment by her co-star on the set of the film It Ends With Us
Women’s organization revokes honor it recently awarded to actor Justin Baldoni after her accusations Blake Livelyhis co-star in It Ends With Usfor sexual harassment and organizing a campaign to “ruin” her reputation.
Baldoni was honored by Vital Voices, an NGO that focuses on women’s empowerment, earlier this month.
The organization announced Monday night that it had rescinded the award after Lively complained of “disgusting behavior” toward the actor.
Baldoni’s legal team told the BBC the allegations were “false” and that they had hired a crisis management specialist because Lively had threatened to derail the film if her demands were not met.
In the film, Lively plays a woman in a relationship with a charming but abusive partner, played by Baldoni.
The Voices of Solidarity Award was presented to Baldoni on Dec. 9 during a ceremony in New York, Vital Voices said in a statement. The award was presented by comedian Hasan Minhaj and honors “men who have shown courage and compassion in standing up for women and girls”.
In a statement on Monday, Vital Voices explained that it had revoked the award and informed Baldoni of the decision.
Less than two weeks after the awards ceremony, Lively, who is best known for her role on the TV show Gossip Girlfiled a lawsuit accusing Baldoni and his team of attacking her public image. The complaint says the assaults occurred after a meeting to address “repeated sexual harassment and other harassing behavior” by Baldoni and a film producer.
According to the filing, the meeting presented a list of 30 requests regarding the alleged misconduct to ensure they could continue production on the film. The list included requests such as no further reference to Baldoni’s “addiction to pornography”, no description of genitalia, and no addition of sex scenes that Lively did not approve of when she read the script.
Lively also accused Baldoni and Wayfarer Studios of orchestrating a “multi-layered scheme” to destroy her reputation in the media and online, including hiring a crisis manager who led a “sophisticated, coordinated and well-funded plan of retaliation” against and a “digital army” was used to post content on social media that appeared authentic.
Responding to the complaint, Baldoni’s attorney, Brian Friedman, said the allegations were “categorically false.”
Friedman accused Lively of making too many demands and threatening to not appear on set and not promote the film, which would “ultimately kill her if her demands were not met.”
He argued that Lively’s claims were “deliberately arbitrary with the intent to hurt the public and reproduce a narrative in the media.”
