Snowstorm causes problems in the Balkans – Power outages, road closures and evacuations
Over 200,000 homes in various areas Bosnia-Herzegovina remained without electrification on Christmas Day, for the second day in a row, the Balkan country’s authorities announced, as a snowstorm that hit it on Tuesday continued to cause problems.
Towns and villages mainly in the north-west and central part of the country are affected by outages, according to the two largest Bosnian electricity companies.
The snowstorm ended yesterday, a day when the Catholic population celebrated Christmas, but many roads remained closed, cutting off many communities.
“Our teams are on the field non-stop, they do everything,” assured Jelena Markovic, representative of the distribution company Elektroprenos BiH. Most of the problem transmission lines are located in hard-to-reach areas, he explained.
