Eyewitness accounts are shocking after a van plowed into a crowd in New Orleans, killing at least 10 people and injuring 30 as they reveled in the New Year.

“All I saw was a truck going off the left side of the sidewalk on Bourbon,” said 22-year-old Kevin Garcia, speaking to CNN shortly after the incident. “A body was thrown at me”he said, adding that he also heard gunshots.

Another witness, 22-year-old Whit Davis of Shreveport, Louisiana, told CNN the incident happened as he was leaving a nightclub on Bourbon Street.

“Everyone started to shout and scream and run back, and then we were basically ordered to lock ourselves in for a while, then they calmed down, but they wouldn’t let us go,” Davis said.

“When we were finally let out of the club, the police waved us where to walk and told us to get out of the area quickly. I saw some dead bodies who could not even cover them and several people receiving first aid”.

Police told people at the scene to put down their phones and leave as soon as possible, Davis said.
