The killer whale, which shocked the world in 2018 as it swam alongside its dead baby for 17 dayshe laments again.

According to the Center for Whale Research, Tahlequah, as she has been named, lost another baby whale and acted in the same way, swimming to its side. The whale was spotted this time off the coast of the US state of Seattle.

Killer whales are known to carry their dead young into the water, but what Tahlequah did was a record.

According to scientists, the death of any newborn constitutes “huge loss”but the death of her newborn Tahlequah was especially heartbreaking.

Tahlequah has now lost two of her four recorded newborns – both of which were female, according to the BBC.

Both Canada and the US list killer whales as endangered. The main food of whales is o Chinook salmon – which has declined dramatically in recent years. Spawning failures are linked to diet and access to that particular salmon, according to research from the University of Washington.

It is recalled that in 2018, Tahlequah was seen with the dead baby whale off the coast of Victoria, British Columbia.
