The Social Democrat chancellor’s response comes after the latest spat with the tech entrepreneur, who called him a “stupid” and claimed he would “lose” the election
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz responds to Elon Musk’s online attacks with a scathing comment while saying he is not seeking his favor.
“Don’t feed the troll,” replies Olaf Solz.
“There are many people on social media who want to get attention with slogans,” Scholz told German weekly Stern in an interview published on Saturday. “I do not seek to curry favor with Mr. Mask I leave that to others,” he added.
The Social Democrat chancellor’s response comes after the latest spat with the tech entrepreneur, who called him a “stupid” and claimed he would “lose” the German federal election scheduled for February 23. In fact, in one last move, Musk referred to Scholz as “Oaf Schitz”.
Musk has also attacked other German politicians, calling German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who like Scholz is from the Social Democratic Party, an “anti-democratic tyrant”.
Meanwhile, Musk has backed the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, sparking a political firestorm in Germany, with Berlin accusing him of seeking to interfere in the upcoming election.
The Tesla CEO, who will have a seat in the incoming US administration thanks to his support for President-elect Donald Trump, has become highly influential in the political arena, using the social media platform X, which he owns, as a means to promote his views.
He plans to host a chat with AfD leader Alice Weidel, who is the party’s choice for the German chancellor ahead of February’s snap election, next Thursday.
In his interview with Stern, Scholz promised to “remain cool” in the face of these personal attacks.
“As Social Democrats, we’re used to the fact that there are rich media entrepreneurs who don’t appreciate Social Democratic politics — and they don’t hide their views,” he said.
