At Frankfurt Airport, at least 120 takeoffs and landings out of the 1,090 originally scheduled for today have already been canceled
Cancellations and delays in hundreds of flights at the airports of Frankfurt, Munich, Stuttgart are caused by the bad weather affecting central and western Europe. A decline in the phenomena is expected from the afternoon.
The most serious problems are at Frankfurt airport, where at least 120 takeoffs and landings out of the 1,090 originally scheduled for today have already been canceled, a representative of the airport’s management company, Fraport, told the German news agency dpa. The runways had to be cleared because visibility was poor, and the de-icing process of the aircraft was causing long delays due to the weather.
At Munich airport, the problems are more limited, with few delays in the execution of the flight schedule, as well as in Stuttgart, where services ask passengers to arrive at the airport well in advance.
Problems due to the bad weather are also noted in the operation of the railways, mainly in the Frankfurt area, while the authorities recommend that drivers take special care on the roads, where there may be snow or ice. In Lower Saxony, Bavaria and Thuringia, around 120 road accidents have been recorded since last night, but without serious injuries.
