Thousands of people demonstrated in Germany on Saturday against the far right as the AfD held talks with Elon Musk at a pre-election party in Halle.
Response
The German election campaign is entering its most critical phase, while the countdown to the February 23 election has already begun. On Saturday, across Germany, thousands of citizens took to the streets raising “democratic wall» against the rise of the far right in the country: over 35,000 in Berlin, almost 40,000 in Cologne, many thousands in other German cities.
Even in Asafenburg, which in the previous days became the site of another heinous crime: the murder of two people, including a two-year-old boy, by a 28-year-old Afghan.
With slogans such as “No to fascism” but also “Shout for Democracy” the message was clear: that there is no more room for complacency in German society for the rapid rise of far-right political tendencies.
New poll: AfD at 21%
It should be noted that according to the new poll on behalf of Bild am Sonntag, the Christian Democrats remain first with 30%, but the far-right Alternative for Germany, in second place also consistently, appears strengthened to 21%.
The Social Democrats are next with 16%, the Greens with 12%, while the Sarah Wagenknecht Alliance moves to 7%. Liberals and the Left are moving below the electoral threshold of 5%, which is required for a party to enter the German parliament.
AfD Congress: “Make Germany Great Again”
In the meantime, the first major election event of the Alternative for Germany in the city of Halle is causing a sensation, with 4,500 delegates-supporters of Alice Weidel inside the conference center and 10,000 anti-far-right demonstrators apart from – yet another – episodic intervention by Elon Musk, which is developing to “mentor” of the Alternative for Germany on the other side Atlantic.
Elon Musk’s followers in Germany now, many of them AfD followers, seem to be on board with many of his controversial ideas and are certainly paraphrasing Donald Trump’s German-tailored slogan: “Make Germany Great Again.”
In his online intervention, Elon Musk reiterated his absolute support for Weidel and the Alternative for Germany. “The future of civilization depends on these elections,” he said, repeating his new “motto”: “Only the AfD can save Germany.”
