We have 30,000 beds in Guantanamo to keep the worst criminals, illegal, foreigners threatening the American people, Trump said during an event at the White House
US President Donald Trump has confirmed reports on Wednesday that his government is considering transferring immigrants to the Guantanamo Naval Base, as he said he would sign an executive decree that would order the Pentagon and the Ministry of Interior to In the Gulf of Guantanamo.
“We have 30,000 beds in Guantanamo to keep the worst criminals of illegal foreigners threatening the American people,” Trump said during an event at the White House.
Earlier, internal Security Minister Christie Noem had responded that the Trump government was considering this possibility.
“We are considering the situation and discussing it right now,” he told the Fox News television channel, noting that it was “to the president” to make the decision.
This prison “is a trump and we will continue to consider how to use all our trumps to guarantee America’s security,” he added.
In the pre -election, Donald Trump denounced the “invasion” of immigrants who “contaminate the blood” of the US and causing a wave of crime, but which is not evidenced by official statistics.
Guantanamo’s prison was founded in 2002 within the US military base in Cuba, as part of the “war against terrorism” declared by then President George W. Bush after the attacks of September 11, 2001. Hundreds of people were held there, including some al -Qaeda members, but the conditions of detention and complained torture caused a strong political confrontation. Democratic former presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden expressed their intention to close it, but failed.
Last September, the New York Times revealed government documents showing that Guantanamo has been used by the US for decades to imprison some of the immigrants found at sea. Immigrants are held in a different place than those who have been accused of terrorism.
Passed the law of Laken Riley
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has transformed a measure of immigrants into law on Wednesday, marking his first legislative victory a few days after taking on his duties.
The House approved the final approval of the bill with 263 votes 156 on Wednesday, with 46 Democrats in favor. The measure also passed from the Senate on Monday with 64-35 votes, with 12 Democrats supporting it.
The Lakenen Riley Law bears the name of a nursing student who was assassinated last year in Athens, Georgia. A Venezuelan immigrant who entered the United States illegally was convicted of her murder to life imprisonment without the possibility of release.
Riley’s killer had been released after being charged with New York and again after theft in Georgia, Trump said.
The president said the law would save “countless” lives and described him as “a perfect, incredible tribute to an incredible young lady”.
The law requires the immigration and customs service arresting immigrants without documents for theft or violent crimes being held in prison pending the trial.
