According to the BBC, Sarah Frederickx, a representative of the Brussels Police, said the suspects fled to the subway station and may remain there.
The spokesman said there were no injuries to the shots. Both local police and the federal railway police are investigating the area.
Police are looking for “a small group of people, probably two or three people,” the police spokesman said, adding that they may still be armed and that the police did not want to take any risk. The Clémenceau Station has closed, as is the nearby Brussels-Midi Station, which is also a Eurostar trains.
Belgian media reports report that the incident may be linked to drug trafficking.
Two metro lines serving the center of Brussels have been interrupted, from Gare de l’Uest to Trône, which is close to the European Parliament and there are changes in the tram lines and specifically between Lemonnier and Berkendael.
