Trump and his senior staff have repeatedly pledged to “find” 300,000 unaccompanied immigrant children who claim – falsely – that the Biden government somehow lost.

To this end, the government appointed a former official of the imposition of migration law to lead a Ministry of Health and Human Services (HHS) – the Refugee Refugee Office (ORR) – Congress has been in charge Temporary guard and care, including support services, for unaccompanied immigrant children.

The real purpose of this effort is not to find 300,000 children who had never been lost or ignored. On the contrary, it seems to be the use of these children’s care and care to identify any adults without paper.

Orr is not a law or enforcement service. It does not have such powers and does not make decisions in these areas. It fulfills Congress’s mandate by funding 240 programs in 27 states, including shelter programs, transitional foster care, long -term care, team homes, increased surveillance facilities and centers in institutions.

In these facilities, HHS subsidy beneficiaries provide children with the focus of children in accordance with best practices of child welfare. This includes access to health care, education, entertainment, consulting and legal services.

The Orr may not share information with immigration officials. This prohibition is clearly described in the language of Congress and in the current Orr policies and regulations.

But most importantly, these children are not “lost” or “missing”. When an unaccompanied immigrant child crosses the US border and is recorded, it is HHS’s job to provide him with temporary care and care.

This includes their support and sending services to homes, neighborhoods and communities with a parent or other family member already in the United States, where they will be safe, attend school and live as close to a normal life as possible.

The Biden government did its job. For four years, the Ministry of Health has worked tirelessly to create a viable network of trained executives capable of facing the huge challenge that these children face.

In short, we know where almost all these 300,000 unaccompanied children can be found today. But unfortunately, the enforcement team on Trump’s migration legislation seems determined to use them as propaganda tools of a larger – and ugly – political game.
