Mexican president Claudia Ceinbaum threatened Google because she renamed the Gulf of Mexico to a Gulf of America to her map service
Its chairman Mexico Claudy Sinbaum threatened Google with a lawsuit because she renamed Mexico Gulf to Gulf of America to her map service after an executive decree signed by the US President Donald Trump after taking up his duties.
Seinbaum insisted on Thursday that Google was not right to rename the area to its mapping service, arguing that Trump’s executive decree could only concern the continental shelf within the US territory.
“What we have a disagreement is Google,” Seinbaum said at a press conference, adding that her government has exchanged letters with the company on the issue. “If they continue to insist, we will consider a lawsuit.”
It is recalled that Google made this change earlier this week after the US government informed its official map under the new name. Apple reported on Tuesday that it will also make the change in MAPS application.
Seinbaum, who thanked Encyclopedia Britannica who insisted on the Gulf of Mexico, said that while Google is a private company that can make its own decisions, hopes there will be a review.
