Strong thunderstorm, the strongest of this year’s winter, swept the communities of Pasifik Palisids and Altandina in the previous 24 hours
Floods and landslides occurred Friday in areas of Los Angeles affected by catastrophic fires last month, after a strong storm that swept the area in the past 24 hours.
There had been no significant rainfall in the wider area for eight months. The storm, which was characterized as the strongest of this winter, caused extensive floods and mud landslides in communities Pasifik and Altandina.
Traffic on a section of the motorway extending along the Pacific Coast Highway was interrupted by landslides. A torrent of mud dragged into the sea a vehicle of the Los Angeles Fire Service and its driver was slightly injured.
On the hills of Hollywood, where luxurious cinema stars are located, one of the main streets were also excluded.
Many cars suffered damage from fertile materials that flooded roads in the Altandina community, which had been hit hard by the January fires.
Local authorities had tried in previous weeks to limit soil erosion with concrete dams and other fortifications.
