“United political support from Member States and the Security Council to achieve sustainable political solutions in conflict,” Greece proposes

2. Extension of the Role of Unpol
– Since 2003, the UNPOL consists of 69 officers, with its mandate extending significantly to areas such as crime prevention, law enforcement and police cooperation between the two sides.

3. Gender Equality in Unpol

6. Cooperation of law enforcement & confidence building
– Following the increase in political activities allowed within the dead zone, political incidents have been increasing in the last five years, while criminal activities have remained stable. Specifically, comparing in 2024 to 2023, political incidents increased by more than 100%, while crimes decreased by 5.1%due to effective cooperation mechanisms in common contact rooms in Nicosia and Pyla and effective communication with the two law enforcement services.

7. Challenges in law enforcement
– The UNPOL provided 147 escorts to the local police forces in the dead zone.

8. Humanitarian response to refugees and asylum seekers
– In 2024 the UNPOL faced the reproductive asylum seekers from the Republic of Cyprus, helping 142 people, including 35 children, who were trapped in the dead zone.
