The Trump administration reopens a detention center in South Texas for families of immigrants facing expulsion, restoring the practice of holding children four years after its expiration from Biden administration.

Corecivic, which manages the installation, announced on Wednesday that it reached an agreement with the US Immigration and Customs Service (Ice) for the reopening of the South Texas family residence center in Dilley, Texas, with a capacity of up to 2,400 people.

Corecivic spokesman Steve Owen said that “we understand that this will host families again. It is a family residence center. ”

Dilley administrator Henry Arredondo said in an interview last month that Ice informed them that Dilley would again hold immigrant families.

The Biden administration ended the practice of family detention in 2021. Corecivic managed the installation from 2014 to August 2024, when the company stated that Ice finished funding for the contract and the installation remained inactive.

Trump’s border manager, Tom Homan, has stated that the administration will restore family booking.

Corecivic said the total annual revenue from the installation is expected to amount to $ 180 million, including medical services.
