The march ended up outside the public television building in support of its journalists who receive vulgar attacks by the Vucic government
Tens of thousands of students, students and citizens marched on the main streets of Belgrade. The march was the culmination of today’s mobilizations and the general strike that took place after the call of the students. The strike mainly involved private businesses, the Bar Associations, the artists and groups of citizens while the public sector operated normally like most of the shops. The march ended up outside the Public Television Building (RTS) in support of its journalists who receive vulgar attacks from power because they cover student mobilizations.
The last case was when the President of the Republic Aleksandar Vucic, in a speech by his supporters in eastern Serbia, described the RTS journalist who covered the student mobilization last Saturday in Nis. The controversial point of Vucic’s speech was broadcast on the central news release of the first public television channel without commentary, which sparked reactions. The RTS administration condemned the behavior of the President of the Republic with a 24 -hour delay.
Tonight, the concentration in front of public television symbolically began at 19:30 as the central news release began. The crowd welcomed RTS journalists and technicians who read their requests to the administration. Among other things, they call for the administration to publicly apologize for the delayed reaction to the defense of its journalists as well as for the inadequate coverage of student mobilizations. RTS journalists require objective information without exclusion and discrimination and call for their resignation to resign by the Information Directorate officials.
Student mobilizations in Serbia will continue, and a large gathering in Belgrade and exclusion of the city center was scheduled for March 15.
Students in Serbia are demonstrating for more than three months against corruption and opacity on the occasion of the collapse of part of the roof at Novi Sad Railway Station on November 1, 2024, which claimed the lives of 15 people.
In the meantime, today, outside the Presidential Palace, students who wish to end the occupations at the University Schools and the start of the courses have begun. These are 10-20 people who set up scenes in the park outside the Presidency of the Republic and say they will remain there until their request is met. These students often appear on pro -government television channels by criticizing their colleagues who are demonstrating while some participate as speakers on the tour of the President of the Republic Aleksandar Vucic.
