For the seventh night, tens of thousands of supporters of Ekrem Imamoglu took to the streets of Constantinople, defying bans and violent police repression, in the most massive protests in Turkey after 2013.

The “focus” of the demonstrations is the City Hall of Constantinople, where the replacement of the prisoner of the mayor is expected to be appointed tomorrow. The president of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), Ozgur Ozel, earlier today visited Imoglou in the Marmaras prisons where he is being held, referring to a coup attempt by Tayyip Erdogan.

Ekrem Imamoglu himself watches the protests through the cell and sends constantly sending messages to his supporters.

“Greetings to all those who raised their voice for the future of our country in Saraçhane, Constantinople, in all the squares of Turkey, on balconies of houses, in the movement,” he wrote earlier today, commenting on yesterday’s magnificent paths.

At the same time, more than 1,400 people have been arrested in relation to these demonstrations, according to Turkish Interior Minister Ali Gerlikaya today.

The UN today expressed concern about mass arrests in Turkey in response to protest protests against the arrest of the popular mayor of Constantinople, and urged the authorities to investigate allegations of illegal use of violence against demonstrators.
