US President Donald Trump has announced new duties for US -imported cars.

“What we will do is impose 25% duties on all cars that are not manufactured in the US,” Trump told the Oval Office.

These new duties are 25% and the US president made it clear that they would apply from 2/4.

The duties will also apply to US brands whose cars are assembled abroad, and could significantly increase prices for consumers.

According to Trump, this measure will bring enormous growth in the automotive industry by opening new jobs and investment in the country and offset the tax cuts it has announced.

It is recalled that as early as Monday, the US president had reported that duties on imported cars will be imposed within the week, before and by payroll tariffs on other products of many US trade partners and already in February he had reportedly considering 25%.

The US automakers’ shares retreated as soon as it was announced that a press conference would be given. Around 19.30 (time in Greece) Ford’s share fell 1.55%, General Motors by 1.65%, Tesla by 6.63%and Stelanis by 2.01%.

In 2024, the US imported $ 220 billion in passenger cars and a car items worth $ 474 billion.

The largest suppliers were Mexico, Japan, South Korea, Canada and Germany.
