The Italian prosecutors opened a survey of possible espionage and terrorism after a drone many times over EU research center in northwestern Italy, two sources said Monday with immediate knowledge of the issue.
The European Common Research Center in Ispra, Lake Maggore, said five overflows in March from a commercial drone, estimated to be Russian, taking into account relevant images, sources said as reported by Reuters.
According to the same sources, no flights above the European Common Research Center, which opened in 1960 as a nuclear investigation area, resulting in the Milan Public Prosecutor’s Office to open an investigation into military or political espionage with terrorist purposes, the source added.
The website of the European Joint Research Center says that the Center in Ispra is the third largest research campus of the European Commission after Brussels and Luxembourg, dealing with many issues such as nuclear security, space, viable resources. No immediate comment has been made by the European Commission.
