Italian Prime Minister George Melona will travel to the United States next week to discuss with Donald Trump on duties, her office announced on Tuesday.

Melon is although Trump’s ally, but at the same time is under pressure to defend the Italian industry.

Italy last year had the third largest trade surplus in the European Union for US -related goods after Germany and Ireland.

The Italian prime minister described the Trump decision on tariffs, but warned that EU countermeasures could escalate a trade war and called for negotiations to mitigate the crisis.

Countries from the European Union have to deal with 25% of steel and aluminum and cars and 20% wider tariffs for almost all other goods in Trump’s policy.

Although EU ministers have agreed that they should prioritize the negotiations, the block is going to approve the first retaliation this week.
