At least 98 people killed and more than 150 injured After a roofing collapse in a nightclub in the capital of the Dominican Republic of Saint Dominic.

According to officials, among the victims were the governor of the province and the former Major League baseball player Octavio Dotel. The 51 -year -old Dotel died on his way to the hospital after being recovered from the debris.

The incident happened on Tuesday morning at a concert by the famous Merelenge singer Roberto Antonio Pérez Hidalgo at the Jet Set nightclub. The singer is among the dead, his manager said.

Hundreds of people were in the area and about 400 rescuers are still looking for survivors. However, as time passes, fears are expressed that the death toll will increase further.

The Director of the Emergency Business Center (COE), Juan Manuel Mendez, said he was optimistic that many of those buried under the collapsing roof are still alive.

The Jet Set is a popular nightclub in Agios Dominico that regularly hosts concerts on Monday nights.

Also among the victims was Nelsi Cruz, governor of Mod Christie province, President Luis Abider said. He was the sister of former baseball player Nelson Cruz, seven times the Major League Baseball All-Star champion.

One of the videos released show people in the club to have fun when the roof suddenly collapses.

One of the members of Rubby Pérez’s band told the local media that the club was full when the collapse occurred “around 01:00”.

“I thought it was an earthquake,” the musician said.

Ruby Peres’s daughter said her father was among those who were trapped in the debris.

President Abinader expressed his condolences to the affected families.
