Pentagon v. Kremlin following Peshkov’s statements on nuclear weapons

by

The Pentagon condemned the refusal of his representative Kremlin Dmitry Peshkov to exclude the possibility of use nuclear weapons during the war in Ukraine.

Pekshov told CNN that they could be used nuclear if Russia faced a threat to its very existence.

Russia has the largest stockpile of nuclear warheads in the world.

THE US Department of Defense spokesman John Kerby stated that the Moscow reports in nuclear are dangerous.

“This is not a responsible way of reacting to a nuclear power,” he said.

Kerby was quick to point out, however, that Pentagon officials “have not seen anything that leads to the conclusion that we need to change our deterrent strategy.”

“We observe it as best we can every day,” he added.

THE former US Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta also stigmatized Peshkov’s statements.

“I do not see how one can see this as anything other than dangerous when Russia is looking for a possible excuse to use low-efficiency nuclear weapons,” he told CNN.

“And honestly, it is based on the very wrong assumption that Russia is threatened in some way. “I think this is a real concern, that Russia is at least thinking about this possibility.”
