OR European Commission It is pleased with the provisional political agreement between the European Parliament and the Council on the new rules of game safety, following the proposal of the Commission for Game Security Regulation, on July 28, 2023.

The new regulation will prohibit the use of harmful chemicals, such as PFAS, endocrine disorders and bisphenols in games. All games will have a digital product passport to prevent entering the European Union (EU) unsafe games sold on and off the internet. The regulation establishes stricter rules for online sales and provides control bodies greater powers to remove dangerous games from the market. This will ensure that imported games are just as safe for consumers with the games manufactured in the EU.

Executive Vice -President for Welfare and Industrial Strategy Stephanie Cezurne said: “The new rules agreed as soon as they make games that are sold inside and outside the internet safer for children. They prohibit harmful chemicals and introduce a digital product passport that will provide wider information to consumers and help market control agencies identify and remove dangerous games, especially at the EU border. So competition will become more fairer and its terms more fairer.
