A new law of France requires websites with content only for adults to control users’ age
French government and content with content only for adults come in conflict for the If there should be control over the age of users that are entering such websites.
A new law of France that comes into force this year requires these websites to carry out audits at the age of users and to exclude users under 18 years of age, according to Pornhub.
The law entered into force on Friday for sites registered in France, such as the French Dorcrel adult film production and broadcasting company, and those registered outside the European Union, such as Onlyfans. From June 7, age checks will be extended to sites based in other EU countries, including Pornhub, Youporn and Redtube, belonging to the Aylo Group and based in Cyprus, and Xvideos, based in Czech Republic.
By law, the French Regulatory Authority of Audiovisual and Digital Services Arcom has the power to exclude pornographic sites if it considers that they do not apply age verification properly and in a timely manner.
Since Friday, these pornographic sites had to offer at least one safe system that controls the ages of visitors through elements such as a verified identity document or even a selfie, a video that calculates the age of the user.
This has led to a hurry from age -verification providers to offer their services on porn sites.
However, what is an obstacle to age control is that they are considered an additional burden on internet users and threat to digital rights activists.
“All the sites want to comply,” said one person who wanted to maintain his anonymity, “but will wait until the last minute.”
