The Hamas leader in the Gaza Strip today rejected the Israeli proposal for a ceasefire, explaining that it does not lead to a definitive end of the war or the Palestinian enclave with the departure of Israeli troops.

In a televised speech, Halil al -Haya accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of medieval solutions, in which Hamas will not participate. He emphasized that Netanyahu sets conditions that are “impossible” to satisfy, referring to the claim to disarm Hamas, which is a “red line” for the Palestinian movement.

Halil Al Haya stressed that Hamas is ready to release all hostages but only in the context of a wider agreement on the final end of the war in the Gaza Strip, which would provide for the withdrawal of the Israeli armed forces from the enclave.

The war in the Gaza Strip broke out after Hamas’ unprecedented attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, when 1,218 people were killed and 251 were abducted. Since then, more than 50,000 people have been killed by Israeli military operations in the Palestinian enclave, according to Hamas controlled by the Gaza Ministry of Health. Of the 251 hostages of Hamas, 58 remain in the Gaza Strip but 34 of them are no longer in life, according to the Israeli army.
