The US has begun to withdraw hundreds of soldiers from northeast Syria, the New York Times said on Thursday.

The US military closes three of its eight small operational bases, reducing its strength to about 1,400 people from 2,000, NYT said, citing two senior US officials.

It is noted that the Trump government had informed Israel That it intends to begin the gradual withdrawal of US troops from Syria within two months, according to a report by the Israeli Ynet news network.

According to an Israeli official, citing the medium a few days ago, the Israeli government estimates that withdrawal would only be partial. At the same time, he noted that Israel is continuing pressure on Americans to persuade them to maintain a military presence in Syria.

Israel predicts that US departure will boost Turkey’s “appetite” for greater control in Syria, which is expected to increase tensions between the two as long as Americans are gone.

The United States keeps Israel aware of their plans, Ynet said.
