The fifth ‘Great Coalition’ in History
On May 5, the government agreement will be officially signed and, as the tagesschau.de website recalls, will be the fifth government of cooperation between Christian Union and Social Democrats in post -war German history.
On May 6, on the proposal of German President Frank-Balter Steinmeier, the new Chancellor, Friedrich Mertz, will be highlighted by the German Parliament after a secret ballot. It should receive the support of the majority, ie 316 votes. He will then go to the Bellevue Presidential Palace to formally indulge in him the act of appointment and from there again to the German Parliament to swear Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany.
As for the next ministers, they do not require their election by the German Parliament. The President of the Republic is subscribing to their appointment and then in turn will be sworn in to the German Parliament.
