Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, on the sidelines of today’s NATO Summit in Brussels, met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
In a simple statement, the Italian presidency states that “during the conversation, reference was made to the developments in the crisis in Ukraine and the situation in the Mediterranean, with particular emphasis on Libya.”
European diplomacy is focusing on Brussels, where NATO, EU and G7 summits focus on the war in Ukraine. US President Joe Biden, who will attend the summits and will have a series of bilateral contacts in order to strengthen the western front and tighten the sanctions against Russia, also stepped on European soil yesterday.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will address the EU Summit via video link.
“As the war unfolds, we see Russia increasingly attacking the civilian population and targeting hospitals, schools and shelters. These war crimes must stop immediately. “Those responsible and their associates will be held accountable in accordance with international law,” said EU Council President Charles Michel in a formal letter of invitation to European leaders at the summit.
