Four Frenchmen, members of the same family, were killed today, as everything shows jumped from the 7th floor of their apartment in Montreux, Switzerland, under conditions that remain mysterious, became known by the police.
A fifth person, a member of the same family, is being treated.
The cause of this family tragedy, which occurred early in the morning in Montreux, a town on the shores of Lake Lehman, remains unknown. However, according to the first information, the tragedy unfolded when police arrived in this apartment for a problem with the education of one of the children.
“The police could not enter the apartment. “At that moment, apparently, the decision was made by this family to jump into space from the balcony of the 7th floor,” Bo Christ’s police spokesman Jean-Christophe Sotrell told RTS.
According to initial investigations, two police officers went to the family’s apartment from France “to execute a warrant issued in connection with the home education of a child,” police said in a press release.
The warrant concerned the father, a 40-year-old Frenchman, who lived in this apartment.
The police knocked on the door and heard a voice asking them who it was. After declaring their identities, they no longer heard any noise from the apartment.
Unable to reach the occupants, they left the scene, but in the meantime, a witness called the police to report that people had fallen from the balcony of an apartment.
The eyewitness “was present at the time the family members fell,” Soterel explained.
Pending the official identification of the victims, it appears that the five people who fell from the balcony are members of the same family of French nationality: the father, his wife of 41 years, her twin sister and the 8-year-old daughter of the couple are the four dead. The son, age 15 years old, is being treated in a serious condition.
The presence of another person in the apartment at the time of the tragedy has been ruled out at this stage of the investigation.
“The events unfolded behind closed doors. The victims were in the apartment and then fell from the balcony. “Whether it is a fall or other circumstances, the investigation will determine what we are dealing with,” the police spokesman underlined.
