“It makes no sense to consider new truce proposals, as long as the war of hunger and extermination continues”
“Negotiations on a truce in the Gaza Strip make no sense at this stage,” Hamas official said today and asked the international community to put pressure on Israel to stop “hunger war” in the Gaza Strip.
“It makes no sense to engage in negotiations or to consider new truce proposals as the hunger war and the warfare continue,” said Bassem Naim, a member of Hamas Political Bureau in AFP.
“People have to put pressure on the government of (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu to stop the crimes of hunger, thirst and murders” in Gaza, he added.
For his part, a Gaza Civil Protection Services spokesman Mahmund Basal said today that three Palestinians, among them a baby girl, were killed by Israeli bombings at dawn in various areas of the Palestinian pockets.
An Israeli senior security official said yesterday Monday that there is still a “window” for negotiations with Hamas until the completion of US President Donald Trump’s visit to the Middle East.
Trump is scheduled to visit the area from 13 to 16 May.
Salo from the Israeli whole “conquest” plan of Gaza
Naim’s statements were made a day after the Israeli government’s announcement that it is expanding military operations in the Gaza Strip to include “conquering” the enclave and the massive displacement of its population.
UN Secretary -General Antonio Guterres noted yesterday that he is “alarmed” by the Israeli plan, which, according to the organization, is designed “tactical, for pressure”.
The plan was condemned “strongly” today by France, with Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Baros declaring that the Israeli government “violates humanitarian law”.
For its part, China also said “opposite” to the operations of the Israeli army in Gaza.
“China is closely monitoring the situation between Palestine and Israel and opposes the continuation of Israeli military operations in Gaza,” Lynn Zian a spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in response to a question about the new Israeli plan.
In the meantime, hundreds of Israelis marched yesterday in front of Kneset in Jerusalem to express their opposition to the new government’s plan for Gaza.
“If we want to release the hostages, we must end the war now, guarantee their liberation, and then Hamas will give us a thousand reasons to return and fight,” Yaya Fink, one of the organizers, told AFP.
From the Hamas attack on Israel, which killed 1,218 people-mainly citizens-according to Israeli data, and 251 were caught hostages. Of the hostages 58 are still in Gaza, of which 34 are considered dead by the Israeli army.
At least 52,567 Palestinians have been killed by women and children, women and children have been killed by the Israeli military operations against the Palestinian enclave, according to data from the Hamas Health Ministry.
Many polls show that Israelis’ support for the war is being reduced, as many prefer to reach a ceasefire agreement that provides for the release of hostages.
