The festivities in the German Parliament were furious after the election of Friedrich Mertz in the Chancellor, in the second round of voting, after the unprecedented shock of his non -election in the morning. The new Chancellor was approached to congratulate him, CDU/CDS executives such as the leader of the CA Jan Span, the outgoing Social Democrat Chancellor Alif Saltz, or the leader of AfD Alice Videl.

In the second round of voting, Mertz garnered 325 votes in favor, exceeding the required 316 votes by 9 votes for the absolute majority. 289 MPs voted against his election, and there was one abstention and three invalid votes.

The swearing will take place around 19.15 hours of Greece.

Friedrich Mertz suffered one shockas he failed to secure the required majority in the first parliamentary vote to ratify his election as the next German Chancellor.

It was the first time since World War II that a candidate for Chancellor failed to secure the support of MPs in the first round of Bundestag vote, causing a disruption to the Berlin government coalition.
