Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni met this afternoon at the Palace Kiji Government Palace with Lebanese President Joseph Aun.

The Italian prime minister reiterated that her country is still on the side of the Lebanese people, even more so in a long period of reforms that can signal a real page change, as underlined in a statement by the Rome government.

The two leaders referred to the situation in the South Lebanon, where Italy is present with more than a thousand soldiers as part of the Unifil mission, and Italy’s role was also highlighted within the UN mission and international coordination for the support of Lebanese Armed Forces.

The Italian prime minister and Lebanese president also referred to the situation in Syria and the need for an inclusive transitional period, with supporting the country’s economy and providing basic services so that in the future it can be voluntarily, safe and decent return of Syrian refugees.
