A man was arrested in South Korea after stabbing four people, killing two of them, police said.

The perpetrator attacked this morning and injured the owner of a store, a woman about 60 years old, in Gieongi province, west of Seoul. He also stabbed a man of about 70 and then tried to escape.

Officers found a corpse in a house, a man who has not been identified at present and appeared to have been murdered several days ago, a senior Sihung police official said. They also researched the alleged perpetrator’s house and found another corpse there.

The man and the woman who are stabbed today are hospitalized but their condition is not of concern.

Police arrested the suspect, after a manhunt of many terms. The Sihung Police Department confirmed that the perpetrator “acknowledged all accusations” but his motive remains unclear.

Earlier, Sihung residents received a message from the municipality calling them “to avoid going out and take care of their safety”. The municipality then sent a second message, stating that the suspect was “a man about 50 years old, with a bald man, wearing dark pants and sweaters” and invited anyone who sees him to inform the authorities immediately.

South Korea is a country that is generally considered very safe. In 2021, based on official statistics, 1.3 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants were recorded, much lower than the global average of 6 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants.
