“Increase production so that Russia does not blackmail”: Zelensky appeals to energy-producing countries

by

The Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky today called on energy-producing countries to increase production so that Russia can not use its oil and gas wealth to “blackmail” other countries.

Addressing the Doha Forum via video link, Zelensky said countries like Qatar could help stabilize Europe.

“They can do a lot to restore justice. The future of Europe depends on your own efforts. “I urge you to increase energy production so that everyone in Russia understands that no country can use energy as a weapon and blackmail the world,” he was quoted as saying.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine a month ago, Europe’s largest gas supplier, has heightened concerns. for energy supply disruption and has made clearer the dependence of European Union countries on imported fossil fuels.

The Ukrainian president added that no country is safe from the shock of food disruptions caused by the Russian invasion of his country. Ukraine is one of the largest producers of cereals in the world.

“International markets have not yet overcome the effects of the pandemic, the shock prices of food. “No one is safe from these shocks and you can not be sure if there is a natural rarity of food,” he said.

“Finally, he pointed out that Russian troops cover fields in Ukraine for miles, exploit agricultural equipment,” said Volodymyr Zelensky.
