The mayor of the northern Ukrainian city of Chernihiv said today that 44 seriously injured people, including three children, could not be transported to safer areas for treatment as the city was cut off by Russian forces.

Speaking on national television, Chernihiv Mayor Vladislav Atroshenko said the situation was particularly critical for the 44 injured who needed urgent treatment.

The mayor added that up to 130,000 people remain in the city without electricity, heating or drinking water supplies and that the city is under heavy Russian bombardment.
