US President Donald Trump has accused the European Union of significantly delaying the conclusion of a trade agreement with the US, describing its threat of a 50% duty on EU imports as “extremely satisfactory move”.

Although congratulated the EU for the initiative to “set up immediately meeting dates”, it rekindled fears of a possible trade war, with a new wave of critical comments, which he posted on the Truth Social platform on Tuesday.

“I was extremely pleased with the 50% duty on the European Union, especially because they were going extremely late (to say mild!) In our negotiations,” he wrote.

“I was just informed that the EU was called on to instantly set up meeting dates. This is a positive development and I hope they will decide, as I have demanded from China, to open European countries to trade with the United States of America, “Trump wrote on his personal social networking platform.

“Remember, I have the power to” impose agreement “on trade to the US if we do not reach an agreement or if they are unjustly dealing with us,” he added.

Trump’s latest statements come after his folding last weekend, when he withdrew the threat of imposing 50% on imports on EU imports on Friday, with Wall Street recording a rise on Tuesday morning.

US and European Union representatives were going to launch talks on Monday, as European policy officials evaluate European business investment plans in the United States.
