The country’s infrastructure has been destroyed by civil war and 90% of hospitals in the areas of conflict are out of service
Cholera epidemic has stacked 70 people in two days in the Sudan capital, according to the Ministry of Health today, in the midst of a collapse of Hartoum Medical Services.
In a statement, the ministry reported 942 new infections and 25 deaths for today in Khartoum, after 1,177 new incidents and 45 deaths, yesterday, Tuesday.
Yesterday, the Ministry of Health recorded a strong increase in cholera cases, with 2,729 incidents and 172 dead in a week, with the state of Khartoum gathering 90% of new infections.
The epidemic is recorded after weeks of wounds with unmanned aircraft (drones) – which are attributed to the Rapid Support Paramilitary Forces (DTY/RSF) against the Sudanese army for more than two years – which have set output the water supply and electricity in the capital.
The Sudanese authorities, however, estimate that 89% of patients, who have been isolated, are in recovery, while maintaining concerns about lack of access to drinking water, which favors the spread of the epidemic.
The war, which has entered its third year, has caused the deaths of tens of thousands of people, the displacement of 13 million inhabitants and the “worst humanitarian disaster”, according to the UN, which is ongoing worldwide.
