“Ukraine is ready to discuss adopting a neutral status under a peace deal with Russia, but this should be guaranteed by third parties and put to a referendum,” said President Volodymyr Zelensky in an interview.
“Security guarantees and neutrality, non-nuclear regime of our state. We are ready to discuss it. “This is the most important point,” Zelensky said.
“This point of the negotiations (…) is under discussion, it is being examined in depth,” he said in an online interview with Russian media, which aired on the Ukrainian presidency’s Telegram channel.
Speaking to a group of Russian journalists via video conference, in a 90-minute interview that Russian authorities had previously warned Russian media against refraining from broadcasting, Zelensky made the remarks in Russian.
The Ukrainian president said the Russian invasion had caused the destruction of Russian-speaking cities in Ukraine and noted that the devastation was worse than the Russian wars in Chechnya.
According to him, Ukraine is discussing the use of the Russian language in Ukraine, in talks with Russia, but refused to discuss other Russian demands, such as the demilitarization of Ukraine.
