An increase of 400% of the Alliance’s air and anti -missile abilities is expected to ask NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte today in his speech in London.
“We have to make a leap forward in our common defense (…). It is a fact that the danger will not disappear, even with the end of the War in Ukraine, “Rutte is expected to say during a Castham House conference, according to a statement from his office.
To maintain a reliable deterrent and defensive capacity “NATO needs a 400% increase in its air and anti -missile defense,” the Secretary -General will add ahead of the NATO Summit in The Hague on June 24 and 25.
“We see in Ukraine how Russia sows terror from heaven, so we will strengthen the shield that protects our airspace,” Rutte, who will meet today with British Prime Minister Kirm Starmer in Downing.
This appeal is taking place at a time when US President Donald Trump demands European allies and Canada to commit to dedicating at least 5% of their GDP to defense spending, threatening that otherwise Washington will no longer guarantee them.
US Secretary of Defense Pitt Hegschez pointed out on Thursday from Brussels that the allies are close to an agreement on this goal, which could be formalized at the Hague Summit.
Mark Rutte proposes to the leaders of NATO member states “a total investment plan that will amount to 5% of GDP in defense investments”.
At the same time today he is going to declare that the NATO armed forces “need additional thousands of armor and tanks, extra millions of artillery shells”.
On the other hand, Rutte will greet Britain’s new defense strategy, which was presented a week ago, which, according to him, “will enhance NATO’s joint defense”.
