The French president met with Denmark Prime Minister Methe Fredriksen and Greenland Prime Minister (Central Photography) to express his solidarity and support for Donald Trump’s “aspirations”.
The French president is the first leader of state to visit Greenland after Trump’s threats to attach the US territory.
The talks of the three leaders will focus on “Security in the North Atlantic and the Arctic, as well as on issues related to climate change, energy transition and security of supply to critical metals,” the French Presidency noted.
The purpose of Macron’s visit is “to enhance cooperation with Greenland in these areas and to contribute to the strengthening of European sovereignty,” he said.
The US president has stated that the United States wishes to take control of mineral Greenland -rich, which has a strategic position in the Arctic Circle for national and international security reasons, and has not ruled out the use of martial power.
