The International Atomic Energy Organization (IAEA) has announced that it is unable to confirm the location of Iran’s enriched uranium stock as Israel’s attacks prevent inspectors from executing their work.
The amount of 409 kg (902 lbs) Highly enriched Iran’s uranium, sufficient for the construction of ten nuclear heads, should, in theory, be stored under the IAEA stamp in an underground facility in Isfahan. However, the Director General of the Organization, Rafael Mariano Grossihe said on Wednesday that the storage site is now unclear, as Tehran had warned him that the stock could be moved in the event of an Israeli attack.
“I’m not sure at all,” Grossi told Bloomberg TV when he was asked about the enriched Uranus. “In times of war, all nuclear facilities are closing. Inspections cannot be carried out or regular activities. “
Statements by the IAEA chief highlight one of the key dilemmas of the attacks on the Iranian nuclear program: While Israeli raids have hurt the country’s ability to produce new quantities of enriched uranium, there is now the risk of losing the control of existing stocks that can be lost.
Isfahan “has been repeatedly affected, with some buildings being damaged,” said Rafael Mariano Grossi.
Until the launch of Israeli attacks at the end of last week, IAEA inspectors carried out more than one visit a day to Iranian nuclear facilities. However, according to Grossi, Tehran has not yet informed the Agency of the “special measures” it planned to apply to protect the enriched uranium inventory from a possible attack.
“We haven’t been informed of anything specific,” he said. “We do not know exactly what these additional protective measures are.”
IAEA continues to monitor the facilities through satellite images and, so far, has not been identified that Iran has attempted to remove the stock of highly enriched uranium. Such an action would constitute a serious violation of the country’s obligations under the Nuclear Weapons Non -Dissemination Treaty (NPT) aimed at preventing the spread of nuclear weapons.
“Iran knows that this stock must remain under the constant supervision of IAEA,” Grossi stressed.
Iran’s high -rich uranium stock could accommodate just 16 cylinders 91.4 cm high, according to the US government’s scientific and technical information office. Even if Israel destroys Iran’s enrichment facilities, the location of this material should be verified because of the risk of being transferred to a secret facility.
Although IAEA inspectors have not “seen” any organized efforts by Iran to produce nuclear weapons, “no other country in the world is enriching celestial at this level,” said Organization’s general manager Rafael Mariano Grossi.
“Many senior officials have said that Iran has all the pieces of the puzzle,” Grossi added. “There is a lot of ambiguity around the issue, and that is never good.”
