One of the most active volcanoes in the world again erupted on Friday (20). Kilauea, located in Hawaii, United States, expelled lava jets that reached 300 meters high, according to a report released by the USGS (United States Geological Service).

Images released by the agency show two different perspectives from intense volcanic activity, with lava jets being expelled from the northern opening of Kilaueea, located inside the Hawaii Volcano National Park. The eruption area has been isolated and so far no risk for nearby communities on the largest island in the state.

The new activity follows a series of similar episodes recorded since December 23, 2024. The authorities reported that the phenomenon began around 2:10 am local time and marked the 26th episode of volcano eruption since that date. During this period of greatest activity, Kilauea eruptions lasted about 24 hours or less, according to the USGS.

Kilauea is located in Hawaii’s volcanoes, approximately 320 kilometers from Honolulu, and has become a tourist attraction, according to CBS News. Despite frequent eruptions, the volcano is not a risk to nearby communities.

Lava jets usually last about one day and are constantly monitored by local authorities. USGS continues to follow the situation in real time.
