Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar accused the Iranian revolution guards of planning to attack Israeli citizens in Cyprus on Saturday.

In a post on X, Saar said the attack was prevented, “thanks to the activity of the Cyprus Security Authorities, in collaboration with Israeli security services”.

Saar did not give details of the nature of the attack while there was no immediate comment by Iran.

It is recalled that the Cyprus police arrested a man as a suspect for terrorism, after information that he was planning a terrorist attack, a reuters reported earlier.

A man suspected of “espionage” and “terrorist action” was arrested in Cyprus today, Cypriot police said.

From a physical surveillance carried out by June 2025, by a cooperative service, it was found that the suspect resides in an apartment near the British bases in Zakaki Limassol, an area adjacent to the British bases.

It should be noted that, during the monitoring, the suspect appeared to move on foot near the British bases, holding a large magnificent camera with a magnifying glass almost daily, as well as three cell phones. He allegedly took photos with both his phones and other electronic devices, repeatedly recording suspicious moves. At the same time kept printed notes.

In addition, it was found that it was transported from Limassol to Paphos by bus, and then moved by another bus near the “Andreas Papandreou” air base. And there he moved suspiciously, taking various photossuspected that it was spying on military installations.

He is investigated against terrorism, espionage, conspiracy to commit a felony and other related offenses.
