Diplomatic tricks are expected to be caused by the private messages of NATO Secretary -General Mark Rutte to Donald Trump, which the US president published on Truth Social.
NATO Secretary -General praises Donald Trump for his harsh attitude because he made Europe “pay a great way” to increase defense spending, in a private message that the US president communicated on his social networking platform.
“Donald, you have led us to a truly, really important time for America, Europe and the world,” Rutte wrote in view of NATO’s meeting on Tuesday, referring to the US president’s demand for all members to commit to raising 5% of defense spending.
“You will achieve something you have been doing for decades for decades,” he adds, according to snapshots of his conversation that Trump social uploaded on Tuesday.
“It wasn’t easy, but we made them all sign for 5%!” Rutte wrote. “Europe is going to pay in a great way, as it should be, and that will be your victory.”
Rutte also praised “Trump’s decisive action in Iran, which was truly excellent and something else that no one else dare to do.”
NATO official confirmed the authenticity of the message.
Snapshots appeared on Truth Social as the US president was flying to The Hague for the NATO summit, which begins on Tuesday night.
Trump had asked all members of the Alliance to spend 5% of their GDP on defense over the next decade, otherwise they are risking losing US security guarantees that have been supporting the security of the continent for decades.
