by

The Russian delegation received a “clearly stated position and proposals from Ukraine”, which will be studied and reported to the country’s leadership, the head of the Russian delegation in Istanbul told reporters. Vladimir Medinsky, after the Russian-Ukrainian talks in Istanbul.

“We have received proposals from Ukraine for consideration and a clearly stated position,” said the aide to the Russian president.

“These proposals will be studied in the near future, will be reported to the President and we will give an answer “he stressed.

Medinsky said the talks were “constructive”, according to TASS.

“After today’s substantive conversation, we agreed and proposed a solution, based on which it is possible a meeting between the Heads of State “At the same time with the initialing of the treaty by the foreign ministers, especially when during this initialing and examination of the details of the treaty it will be possible to discuss various political nuances and details,” he said after the Russian-Ukrainian talks. “So, if the work on the treaty and the required compromise move forward quickly, the chances of peace will be much closer,” he added.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu earlier announced that he had decided to “drastically reduce” his military activity around Kyiv and Chernihiv.

The first round of talks between the delegations took place in the Gomel region of Belarus on February 28th and lasted five hours. Later there were two more face-to-face meetings and then there were some online meetings.

The Ukrainian position

The adoption of a regime of neutrality, in return security guarantees similar to NATOUkraine suggested during the last round of talks with Russia, which means that it will not join military alliances or host military bases, the Ukrainian negotiators announced today.

Suggestions will still include a 15-year consultation period for the annexed Crimea regime and will only apply if there is a complete ceasefire, negotiators told reporters in Istanbul.

These proposals are the most detailed and clear that Ukraine has so far publicly expressed.

“If other countries want to join (ie guarantor countries), they will have the opportunity to do so,” said the Ukrainian negotiator. David Arahamia. Security guarantees temporarily will not apply for the occupied Donbas and Crimea.

“There will also be a clause in the agreement stating that not only all the guarantor countries will not deny Ukraine’s accession to the EU, but will help herhe stressed.
