The United States has announced on Thursday the imposition of new sanctions on Iran, as well as restrictive measures targeting the Hezbollah network, according to a statement on the US Treasury’s website.

In particular, the US has imposed new sanctions on Thursday on a network of businesses involved in Iranian oil smuggling, presented as an Iraqi, as well as against a financial institution controlled by Hezbollah, the US Treasury said.

According to the announcement, the network is governed by Iraqi businessman Salim Ahmed Said and has bought and transported oil of Iranian dollars by 2020 by 2020, either camouflaged as Iraqi or mixed with Iraqi oil.

“The Treasury will continue to target Iran’s revenue sources and intensify financial pressure to stop the regime’s access to financial resources that supply its destabilizing actions,” said US Finance Minister Scott Bessed.

Sanctions also include several ships allegedly involved in secret traditions of Iranian oil as part of the US attempt to hurt Tehran’s “shadow fleet”.

At the same time, the Treasury imposed sanctions on several senior officials and an entity linked to the Al-Qard Al-Hassan financial institution, which is controlled by Hezbollah. According to the Treasury, the involved processed millions of dollars that benefited Hezbollah, covering the actual origin and direction of money.
